The two she-cats padded back into the barn, Irènè first. She collapsed on her nest made of hay, laying there motionless for a few moments. Eventually she picked herself up and settled down for nice rest. She was up all night for this clan-business with Nia. She wondered if it was really worth it anymore, to make sure Nia didn't cry. It was strange to think that such an emotionless cat's heart could be twisted with pain and self-disappointment at the sight of her sister's apparent sadness.
Nia cautiously stepped into the barn, a little more at ease when she heard Irènè's breathing even. At least she was sleeping peacefully....She padded over to her own nest of hay, but didn't lay down. She felt restless. The she-cat walked back over to the entrance of the barn, staring out into the land. She'd wait until nightfall. She replayed her plan in her head. Irènè would be asleep, but she'd know Nia was leaving. Everything would be bathed in moonlight, she'd be able to find her way easily. Padding through the open grass eventually to the invisible border, around there she would find the bush Spiritheart showed her. I'll wait all night if I have to. She thought. I know he'll come...He has to... She glanced over at Irènè, the black cat's chest rising and falling. I should get as much rest as I can if I'm going to be out at night... Nia returned to her nest and lay down, a sudden sleep taking over her.
