Stormfire launched his lithe gray body into the river. He pounded his strong legs against the current, rushing to Morningpaw. His thin pelt was immediately soaked, chilling him to the bone. He shoved his mouth down into the water, trying to grasp his apprentice's scruff. He resurfaced his head, panting in frustration.
He dove down again. There was no time to be pleased with himself when grabbed a hold of the she-cat's fur. He hauled her over to the bank, pulling his heavy wet body and Morningpaw's out of the icy water. He dragged her away from the edge before letting go.
His jaw ached and he shivered as he quickly shook his pelt. Coughs thundered out of this throat until all of the water was freed from his lungs. Still panting he sat down, too tired to move.

Morningpaw lay there, a sodden heap of damp fur, chest not rising and falling as it should.
All was dark. A heavy, compressing dark that pressed down on her and stifled her quiet breaths. A bright light shone through the darkness, radiating clear and pure through the unending blackness. Am I dead? Morningpaw mused for a moment, footfalls muffled by the strange black substance.

"Morninpaw!" Stormfire called out his apprentices name. He turned to Cloverpaw and Silverwind. "What are you standing there for? Go get Applefang! Go!" He looked down at the wet pile of fur that was Morningpaw. "Morningpaw!"

Silverwind cast a disgruntled look at Stormfire, her own fur soaking wet. "Sure thing." She mewed, through gritted teeth. The mentor flicked her sodden tail for Cloverpaw to follow. She shook herself, and gave a shiver, before dashing off, weaving her way back to camp. The she-cat started to warm up slightly, running so much. "Applefang!"

OoC- Note- if it's in italics it's not happening, at least not on Earth. BiC- Morningpaw stood up suddenly, blinking the last of the water out of her eyes. The ray of light still shone through the blackness, radiating warmth and peace. Despite her rational thoughts, she began to draw closer to the light, all the time wondering if she had already breathed her last and was coming to join StarClan. Morningpaw! Morningpaw! came a cry from below. Stormfire. thought Morningpaw with a jolt of fear. He's down there. I must be going to StarClan or something if I hear him from below. I wonder what the Clan will think. What will Nightstar say? 'A poor stupid apprentice went into ThunderClan territory, caught a fish, and then tried to return but drowned.' What a stinking stupid obituary. All the time she had been wandering, the light had been growing brighter and brighter, unwavering. All of a sudden, the light exploded into a cat. A very familiar cat. Mother!? gasped Morningpaw. Yes, dear. came the answer. It didn't seem to come from the cat, instead going directly into her mind. Mother, am I dead? Is this StarClan? the tiny apprentice cried, looking down at her own sodden fur. It wasn't bright and shining like her mother's. That could be a good or bad thing, depending on the way you looked at it. No, dear. This is the pathway between life and StarClan. came the reply. All of a sudden the light was lifted. They were in a breathtakingly beautiful clearing. Trees waved gently in an invisible breeze, and cats waited on two sides of her: One group was bright and beautiful, and the other dark and mysterious. Behind her was a path, the way she'd come. This is the entrance to the afterlife. whispered Morningpaw's mother, her breath tickling her daughter's ear. The dark cats are from the Dark Forest, the afterlife for cats who did terrible things. The bright cats are from StarClan. Behind you is the place you came from. Now there is a choice to make. What group will you go to? Some cats have this choice, some don't. You have been a loyal apprentice, and so we give you the choice. Where will you go? Aghast, Morningpaw looked up at the stars. They were huge and bright, closer than she had ever seen them. But then a noise interrupted her, and she spun around to see an image of Stormfire in the path back to Earth, eyes wide and desperate. Please wake up, Morningpaw, he pleaded. Please. Morningpaw's eyes widened until they thought they would burst. Stormfire! No, please no. You didn't drown saving me, did you? Oh no. As she spoke, the image wavered, but did not disappear. No, little one. That was simply a vision of what awaited you on earth. replied her mother. Now you must make the decision. Where will you go? Morningpaw looked from one group to the other. The dark, hateful cats of Dark Forest...the bright, beautiful cats of StarClan...and Stormfire, desperation glimmering in his eyes. All in one moment, she decided where she wanted to go. Home. she meowed. That's where I belong. And I'd like to go to StarClan, though not for many moons yet. A great murmering arose from the cats. You have made a wise decision. meowed her mother, pride gleaming in her eyes. Now go back, and never forget us. Go. The word was taken up until it became a chant, a rhythmic chant that seemed to come from all of the cats in the afterlife, millions and millions of eyes approving her decision. Go. Go. Go. Go. Go. The world dissolved beneath her, and everything turned upside down.
She opened her eyes as water gushed out of her body, expecting to still see the sparkling clearing of StarClan. "Mother?" she croaked once her throat was clear, taking a breath for the first time. Her tongue felt like it was made out of stone and her body felt like it weighed a million pounds. "W-w-where am I? Am I dead?"

"Morningpaw!" Stormfire gasped with relief. "I'm so glad you're alright. Don't worry, Applefang is coming. We'll get you back to camp soon. Don't talk just focus on breathing right now." He looked around for Silverwind, hoping the she-cat would return with the medicine cat soon. If she had gone earlier....Well it didn't matter now. Morningpaw wasn't in danger of dying. She would be fine. She would be fine...

Applefang had abandoned Hollykit and hurried to Morningpaw, bringing coltsfoot and poppy seeds with him. The tom sprinted though the forest, and left the apprentice in the dust. He saw them soon, and skidded to a stop. He put the herbs on the ground and picked up some coltsfoot, chewing on it. He then tried to get the apprentice to swallow it. "Come on, you need to eat this." he mewed. The cat addressed Stormfire. "Morningpaw will be fine with me. Go back to camp and alert our leader."

Yup, near-drownings had made Morningpaw crazy. "No...Stormfire!" croaked Morningpaw, sodden limbs flailing helplessly as she fought an invisible enemy. "Don't go, don't let them take me! I chose to stay with you and not my mother! Don't let them take me! I chose to go to StarClan, not this!" Quite obviously, Morningpaw imagined herself back in the clearing, surrounded by the dark cats of the Dark Forest, circling and closing in on her. "No...don't..." she whimpered with the last of her strength, and then blacked out.

"Morningpaw. You're not going to StarClan yet...wait...what did you say?!" the tom was astonished at her words. 'Don't go, don't let them take me! I chose to stay with you and not my mother! Don't let them take me! I chose to go to StarClan, not this!' He then noticed her faint, and he forced a poppy seed down her throat, to help her sleep and calm down. Applefang picked the apprentice up by the scruff of her neck like a kit, and started to half carry half drag her back to camp.
ooc; I'm going to go straight to the camp again.
