Stormfire sat next to the river, waiting for the rest of the patrol to join him. Morningpaw would certainly need work on her fishing skills. He quickly ran over the basics in his head. He nodded slightly, signaling to himself that he was ready to teach Morningpaw more about it. He eyed the river, there seemed to be a few fish in the water today. Leaf-bare was rolling in. The leaves had fallen from most of the trees and the river was getting colder. The river freezing was always a hard time for RiverClan, but they made do with the prey that crossed the land.

A little while later, Morningpaw came skidding over to him, almost falling into the river, panting heavily. "Sorry, Stormfire!" she cried, aghast, a vole dangling in her mouth. "I was about to come over and I saw this vole and I couldn't just let it go..." her voice trailed off as she looked at her mentor, terrified that that was just one too many of her excuses. "Sorry," she choked out before sitting down, face burning under her pelt.

Silverwind padded over to Stormfire, past the aghast Morningpaw. She held a bemused expression upon her face, and was supressing a laugh. "Quite the little apprentice you have there" She meowed, smiling. "I must say, good catch though. Cloverpaw, come over here and I'll show you some basic fishing techniques." The silvery she-cat called to her own apprentice, choosing a suitable spot on the riverbank. The water smoothly moved past barely a ripple appearing, it's icy depths almost inviting, barely a fox-length away. "Looks freezing. Don't slip and fall in" The mentor warned, and held herself to the ground with slightly unsheathed claws. She held her position steady.

Stormfire laughed. "That's perfectly fine Morningpaw." He assured her. "You can bury it somewhere so we can pick it up later. Now, I want to show you the basics of fishing. Come over here so you can see." He flicked his tail for her to join him near the river. "Be careful not to fall in. It's cold."

Honestly trying not to trip over her paws, Morningpaw inched towards Stormfire in an adorably innocent, laughable way. She hated water. Just the feeling of it as it seeped into her fluffy fur....ugh. She supressed a shudder at the thought.
After a while of hard inching, Morningpaw reached her mentor and smiled. "Okay. Ready."

Cloverpaw was enjoying seeing the sights outside of camp for once. She was so used to looking after Hollykit, that she had almost forgotten what the outside looked like. She followed after her mentor, wanting to prove she was just as good as any apprentice. She watched Silverwind and nodded, sitting down next to the she-cat. "Don't worry, I don't plan on taking a swim anytime soon." she murmered. "Don't the fish get cold?" Of course she would ask something like that at a random moment. It seemed like a reasonable question to her.

"Okay, the first thing you must to do is find a good position. If your shadow falls on the water, the fish will know you're there and they'll swim away." He instructed. "If the sun is behind you, never, never, never cross the river to Sunning Rocks. Sunning Rocks is ThunderClan territory. Try to find a place on one of the rocks around the river or somewhere where a tree hides the sun. Where we are right now is perfect." He nodded, continuing with his indoctrination. "You must sit perfectly still. Any sudden movements and you'll scare the fish." He sat at the edge of the river, his fiery eyes staring down at the fish. He made no movements. Suddenly, his gray paw shot down and scooped out a fish. It flopped in the air until he caught it in his mouth and laid it down on the ground.
"It's best to try to scoop the fish out, then kill it with a bite." He said. "If you use your claws, you'll rip up the fish. Now, you try." He stepped back, giving her room to fish.

Silverwind chuckled. "It seems to us that fish do not get cold, even in this kind of water" She replied to her apprentice. "Ok. Lets start with your position. I find it easier to stand when fishing, you can react to the fish coming out of the water faster." The she-cat eyed the moving river. "Look for ripples. That means the fish are close to the top. They are the easiest kind to catch. If you wait until you see one of those ripples near to you, it's only a matter of time before it'll swim past, and pretty close to the bank..." The silvery she-cat's paw shot into the water, much like Stormfire's, and hooked sharply upwards. A medium sized perch came flying out, and Silverwind leapt sideways to receive it in wide jaws. Dropping the catch, she continued to Cloverpaw. "Remember to be ready when it comes out. They are slippery little creatures." A slight hint of humor edged her mew.

"O-okay." Morningpaw nodded, trying hard to digest all the sudden information thrown at her. Inching around the banks, she found a comfortable position where she was above the water and her shadow fell to the opposite side. Raising her paw high above the water, she scanned the clear depths for any sign of fish. When she found one at last, right at striking depths, it took every ounce of her self-control not to jump and squeal. Yes, Morningpaw was the excitable type. Yes indeed. At last she threw down her paw, striking the water and scooping the fish high in the air. Time seemed to slow down. The fish flew high in the air, glittering rainbow in the sunlight. With a stab of despair the she-cat realized that it would just fall right back into the river. In that instant she made up her mind. Perfectly she executed a flying leap over the river, catching the fish in her jaws and landing flawlessly on the other bank, stumbling a little but keeping her balance. Biting down, she broke the neck of the fish and grinned triumphantly at her mentor on the other bank, having no idea she was in ThunderClan territory. OoC- Enter hostile ThunderClan patrol. =D

Normally, Stormfire would be quick to praise Morningpaw for her catch. Instead his eyes widened with worry. "Morningpaw, get back over here! Now!" He yowled. They had no way of telling whether a ThunderClan patrol was on it's way over or not. If Morningpaw was caught, ThunderClan would be angry, and Nightstar would throw a fit.

Unable to hear Stormfire over the rush and roar of the river, Morningpaw assumed he was congradulating her and waved the fish, the rainbow scales flashing. "Mmhmphhmggr!" she shouted, voice muffled because of said fish.

"Morningpaw!" Stormfire yowled again. "Cross the river, now!" Realizing that Morningpaw couldn't hear him, Stormfire plunged into the icy river water. He emerged at the other side, panting. The current was not agreeing with him. "I told you, never, never, never cross the river under any circumstances!" He scolded. "We're going back into RiverClan territory and we're going to stay there. Understand?" His patience had run out with the apprentice. It was her fault for not paying attention. He frowned, realizing that Nightstar might have to know about this...But, maybe he could give her benefit of the doubt? Sighing, Stormfire decided to think about it later.

Jerked out of her happy reverie, Morningpaw blinked suddenely, eyes clearing. "What?" she mumbled, swinging her head from side to side and taking in her surroundings as if she had been somewhere else for the past few minutes. "Oh my gosh!" she squealed, leaping into the river in an attempt to swim back to the RiverClan territory. Unfortunately, she'd misjudged the strength of the current. Being the still-tiny apprentice she was, she was instantly swept away by the current, lost from sight around the bend. "Stormfire!" came her last fading cry.
Whipped around by the current, Morningpaw blinked underwater, trying to get ahold of her surroundings. Everything was dark and murky, prominent objects only smudges in the muddy riverwater. With a gasp (not a good idea) she realized that her oxygen supply was dwindling quickly. Bubbles escaped her mouth as she began to panic, (ha) thrashing around in a vain attempt to get to the surface and breathe. "Help!" she tried to yowl, but water filled her mouth and throat and she began to choke.

Cloverpaw nodded, happy her question was answered, even if it was completely weird. She listened to her mentor, carefully absorbing each word, and trying to not miss anything said. "That was amazing!" the apprentice exclaimed, fascinated by how Silverwind had caught the fish. She was about to ask if she could try when she saw Morningpaw. This couldn't be happening. "Don't give up!" she encouraged the other apprentice.

Silverwind gave a gasp of surprise as Morningpaw was swept away. Why was she still standing stationary? The she-cat threw a despairing look at Stormfire, before leaping into the water. She whipped around whilst in the air to land in the strongly flowing waters, her back to the current, and started to swim with fast moving paws. "Cloverpaw, stay at the bank, we might need help after Morningpaw gets out!" The mentor yelled back to her apprentice, then stared forward, pushing herself faster in the river, and around the corner. The silver she-cats fur flowed in the swift current, and she spotted Morningpaw, and clawed at the river bed to jump even faster into the speeding liquid. "Keep calm Morningpaw! Don't flail, swim!" She yowled, trying to get to the small apprentice. "STORMFIRE!"
