Cloverpaw's attention was soon away from her sister and to the voice she had heard call her name. She saw Stormfire and Morningpaw, and then her eyes gazed to Silverwind. Oh yeah, she was suppose to train! She took a last glance at her sister, hoping the kit would be alright. 'Hollykit will be fine' she told herself. With the boast of self-confidence the apprentice padded over to the rest of the cats she was to hunt with. "I'm ready." she announced, her tail swishing eagerly.

Silverwind smiled widely at Cloverpaw, her first ever apprentice. "Today will be a good chance to see what your hunting is like, and we can work from that" The she-cat had the patrolling session pretty much planned out in her head. Cloverpaw was the warrior's main priority this morning. She glanced to Stormfire. "Shall we get going"? Her tail flicked slightly.

"Okay!" cried Morningpaw brightly, bouncing on her toes in anticipation. "Let's go! Can we now? Please?"
OoC- Aww!

Stormfire chuckled again. "Okay, okay. Calm down Morningpaw." He lightly chastised. "We were waiting on you anyway. We should probably go down to the river and work on your fishing skills. Have I taught you the basics of fishing yet?" His eyes quickly flicked to Nightstar. No impatience showed in her expression, but he knew it was there. He flashed her a smile and her eyes narrowed. Stormfire turned his attention back to his apprentice.

"A little bit." Morningpaw answered, taking a few deep breaths. "You taught me the basic scooping technique, but I think I need a little more practice..." Anxiously eager to please her mentor, the tiny orange-and-white apprentice dabbed her paw at clods of earth, trying to scoop them up in the air like they were fish. After a few minutes of embarassment, a clod went flying up and whacked her in the nose. "Uhh..." she murmured, shaking with embarrassment.

The medicine cat meowed to the kit, "Hollykit. Nightstar is concerned about you." Applefang peered down at the she-cat. "Can you speak? If you can, then tell me if you are alright." He flicked his tail, shooing a fly out of his ear. The tom hadn't heard Hollykit speak before. Was she mute, possibly? She could become a warrior, even if she cannot talk. The RiverClan cat wondered to himself, Or is she just a late-maturer? She might take longer to develop her voice fully.

Galesong stood and watched Applefang for a moment, her gaze drifting to Hollykit and Hummingkit, then at last to Pebblepaw. "Pebblepaw, we should go," she said in a soft voice, not wanting to disturb the others. Her apprentice nodded with sad eyes, but a slight smile lingered on his face. He trotted to Galesong's side, waving goodbye to Hummingkit with his tail.
Hummingkit turned away from the spot where the bird had been at last, her eyes now caught on the receding image of her brother.

Hollykit listened to Applefang, wondering why Nightstar would be concerned about her. Her speak? No way! She could speak only one word, her sister's name. And that was still hard to say for her. Instead of replying to the medicine cat, the kit stayed quiet. Her attention soon strayed away from the tom as she heard the leaves rustling. The kit was unsure as to what was making the tree's do this, and was curious about it, but not curious enough to open her eyes, much less say anything.

Applefang noticed the kit's distraction. He mewed sharply to get her attention back. "I will take that as a no. Hollykit. Where is your sister? I want to talk to her." he asked, and surveyed the camp. If there is something genetically wrong with her, then I cannot help it. If she is just resisting, I may be able to do something. he thought, tail twitching. I'll just have to think of how I could provoke her voice out of her throat.

Hummingkit's straying eyes were now latched onto Applefang. Where was Hollykit's sister? Where was her brother? He had told her many times what he and Galesong did, but to her it made no sense. His demonstrations couldn't teach her what life as an apprentice was like, not when she was always here, barely ever moving. And she never could ask anything either. How could she? She knew she was hard, she knew it by looking at the tired eyes of Pebblepaw, up early every morning to come sit with her. He was good, and she was limiting him enough already.

The tom padded into camp, with Morningpaw dangling from his jaws. He said nothing to anyone and went straight to his den. Applefang set her down when he was inside, and he went through his herbs. He left some of the coltsfoot by the river, and he muttered to himself angrily. He got some more poppy seeds and thyme from his stock to soothe her when she wakes up. Applefang decided to sort his herbs while he was waiting for the apprentice to wake up.

The sky portrayed nothing. Just a thick dark blanket of dull gray clouds hovering over what seemed to be everything. The out line of dark brown trees was clear against the sky. White flakes of snow sprinkled down, gently and silently. The silence seemed to stick to the RiverClan camp as the snow stuck to the ground. A pair of pitch black irises stared straight ahead, into the falling ivory. The snow draped onto the thin tree branches, clinging to whatever it could.
Quam serena. Quam benigma.
The owner of the irises thought. The expression of sorts was taught to her by her mother, a long time ago. She didn't know where it came from, she only now understood what it truly meant as she sat within the peaceful blizzard. It felt almost unreal, the snow surrounding her in such a way. She took no notice of it collection on her fur, sinking in and making her skin cold. Winter's rain fell to no end.
How serene, how benevolent.
She finished her thoughts with that. The scene that stood all around her was beautiful. She didn't say it. She didn't need to say it. Almost nothing could brake this fragile moment. This moment that she knew wouldn't last long. The hunting party she sent out has been gone for a while. If it was snowing, shouldn't the river be frozen over? Shouldn't all the prey be hiding in it's burrows? Nightstar let no more than a rabbit's tail of worry fall into her mind, but she did not show it. Stormfire was her brother, could something have happened to him or someone else? She remembered Silverwind get Applefang. It felt so long since that happened. Perhaps because she barely noticed it as she was consumed by the cold silence.
Stormfire loved the snow just as much as anyone. The way it fell in such a way, such a gentle way that was so calming. He knew Nightstar would be thinking the same. His sister never showed any emotion like that but he knew. He was the only one who knew. And the only one who ever would. His sister and him were similar in things they liked. They only seemed so different because Stormfire said everything and Nightstar said nothing. He assumed Nightstar enjoyed the cold feeling of the flakes seeping into her fur and freezing her right down to the bone, like he did. Unfortunately, he couldn't stop and admire this spectacle. An incident of sorts occurred. He couldn't even go back and get the fish he caught. Perhaps Silverwind would remember, or maybe Cloverpaw.
He sprinted into the RiverClan camp, the snow never giving up on collecting on his fur. His muscles shoved the flakes away as the rippled beneath his gray pelt. His golden fiery eyes he was named for sparkled with worry for his apprentice. He slowed as Nightstar's dark brown pelt came into view.
"Nightstar," He breathed her name as he panted. He kept his voice low, not wanting to disturb the silence too much. "Morningpaw fell into the river when we were fishing. Applefang came to help and I think he's taking her back here." He would not mention the part about crossing over to ThunderClan territory. He couldn't let Nightstar know about that and he hoped no one else would either. Her going to the other side of the river is what caused her drowning but the leader didn't have to know that. His fur, still soaked with icy water from saving his apprentice chilled his spine and the cold coming from the snow that he liked was not helping. He was uncomfortable, yes but he'd endure it. He knew he'd get to warm up next to a piece of moss later on. Or maybe he could stay in the medicine cat's den. The sheltered habitat of Applefang would certainly be nice and warm. Although, he decided not to get his hopes up.
Nightstar nodded in response. Somehow she wasn't surprised that young energetic Morningpaw took a fall into the river. She knew the apprentice would be fine under Applefang's care and that the river was not frozen over after all. It might freeze over night though, when it gets colder. Somehow the sky seemed to darken. The sun was sinking behind the clouds, it's faint light starting to fade. The landscape seemed to have a blue-ish tone to it now.
She noticed her brother shivering. He must've saved Morningpaw, making his pelt colder than it should be on this day. "I'll ask Applefang to keep you in his den as well. You might catch a cold in this weather." [/blockquote]

She didn't notice the flurry of white outside, at first. The she-kit was thinking. Her tail twitched with impatientness, wanting the half-moon to pass faster. She turned to pace inside the nursery, but stopped in her tracks. White little objects were floating down from the sky. Her pelt tingled with excitement. What was this? Silentkit turned to Hummingkit to ask what it was, and nearly forgot she couldn't speak. Instead, she turned and slowly stuck her head outside. They were cold, and they stuck to her whiskers and nose. She shook them off, and padded curiously out into the clearing. The strange flakes landed everywhere, coating her pelt a pure white. She shook them off and ran around, watching them fall, blinking as they fell into her eyes. That's odd. she thought. They get wet when they touch my pelt. Kind of like rain. But I don't mind if I get soaked! This is so much fun! Silentkit pranced around in the clearing, enjoying this weird new kind of weather. When she looked at the leader, it seemed like Nightstar liked it as well. The kit looked expectantly at her, eyes asking the question, 'what is this stuff?'

(XD Riverclan kits have problems. Of the three kits, three can't/don't speak, two are dangerously tiny, and one hasn't opened their eyes. >.<
And Latin rocks! ^^)
Hummingkit shivered in the frosty air, her thin layer of fur barely protecting her at all from the chill. Her dark gray fur seemed to blow in the blizzard, the small white spots dotting her pelt blending in with the snow. She barely even noticed the presense of the other kits in the nursery, her dark brown eyes glazed over. Besides her breathing and shivering she didn't move at all, trying in vain to conserve as much heat as she could.
*********
The two cats ran side by side through the blizzard, the one a swirl of colors and the other a gray blur who blended in with the snow and seemed a ghost. They carried with them a plump rabbit, its white fur blanketed with snow already. It wasn't a large amount for two cats to bring, but when the snow had begun falling Pebblepaw had grown concerned about his sister and so they had began to return to the camp.
They reached the camp at last, everything looking strange under the barrier of snow. Nodding a farewell, and with a smile from both to both, they split apart. Galesong walked to the fresh-kill pile to drop of the rabbit, then sat near it, enjoying the light touch of the snow drifting across her fur.
Pebblepaw walked instead towards the nursery, shaking himself to toss off the thin layer of snow that had accumulated on him. His eyes were trained on his destination; lost in a whirl of white.

As instantly as if someone had yowled in her ear, Morningpaw was wide awake. She kept her eyes closed, though, dreading the sight that she would behold when they opened... As if by magic, the glittering clearing reappeared under her eyelids. Her mother standing in front of her, blinking gentle amber eyes...Stormfire behind her, a desperate yowl coming from his muzzle...the dark cats from the dark forest, glaring at her with hateful eyes. Involuntarily a shudder passed through her, and she finally opened her eyes to see Applefang leaning over her. "What?" she murmured, blinking a few times. "Where am I? Where's Mother?"
